PICK YOUR FIGHTS

PICK YOUR FIGHTS

By Margaret Doherty-Aka

Exodus 14:14 – The Lord shall fight for you, and you shall hold your peace.

Ephesians 4:26-27 Be ye angry, and sin not: let not the sun go down upon your wrath: Neither give place to the devil.

Friends, there are times in your walk with God when people act so ugly, rude, obnoxious, and unfair to you that you feel like taking it outside to the parking lot and letting them have a five-fold ministry (the one within your fists)! As one who grew up in a wonderful city called Lagos, I certainly am not new to giving people “a piece of my mind”! But friends, no human being is worth losing your salvation over.

The bible says in Ephesians 4:26 that we may be angry but to sin not and that we should not to let the sun go down with our anger. Beloved, PICK YOUR FIGHTS. Fight the good fight of faith. Fight spiritual enemies (with the weapons of your warfare that are mighty through God). Be assertive but not aggressive. The bible tells us God beautifies the “meek” with salvation (Psalm 149:4). Beloved, “meekness” is by no means synonymous with “weakness” but rather it is actually having the power and choosing not to use it. Hand over the battle to God. God tells us in Romans 12:19 “vengeance is mine…”

The bible tells us to be kindly affectioned to one another (Romans 12:10). The fact of the matter is that there are some that appear unlovable. Many are “fake” with “fake” smiles that are not genuine or sincere. Some constantly push your buttons and will not speak peaceably unto you even if you cut off your tongue for them (perhaps because you have something they lack). LOVE THEM ANYWAY! This is because it is a commandment from God to do so. Jesus said “Father forgive them, for they know not what they do…” about the people who crucified him (Luke 23:34)! Besides, if you are only nice to those who are nice to you, what sets you apart from the unbeliever? The Philistines covered Isaac’s wells not once or twice but they did so over and over again. How did Isaac handle them? WITH WISDOM! He left the scene. He did not meet them in the parking lot nor did he let them have a “five-fold-ministry”. Friends, it just wasn’t worth it. There’s a lesson to be learnt from the way he handled this situation. You should always hold your peace not because you are a fool. The bible says blessed are the peacemakers for they shall be called sons of God (Matthew 5:9). Be the first to apologize if need be. Beloved, to whom much is given much is required. Some people are vessels of wood and have no aspirations in life but to bring others down to their levels. Keep your eyes on the prize of a high calling in Christ. Let not your heart be troubled. God will arise on your behalf. God will give you an answer of peace.

Jeremiah 50:34 Their redeemer is strong; the LORD of hosts is his name: he shall throughly plead their cause, that he may give rest to the land, and disquiet the inhabitants of Babylon.

Your redeemer is strong; the Lord of hosts is his name. He shall THROUGHLY plead your cause and give rest to your land. He will disquiet your enemies and give you rest on every side! Beloved, the voice of the Lord breaketh the cedars of Lebanon. I pray in the mighty name of Jesus that WHEREVER you do not have a voice, HEAVEN WILL SPEAK FOR YOU! Whosoever touches you touches the apple of God’s eye. The Lord strong and mighty, the Lord mighty in battle, the Lord of Hosts shall arise and fight for you and you shall hold your peace. May the peace of God that passes all understanding be yours in the mighty name of Jesus! Remain blessed in the awesome name of our savior Jesus!
